Omaha: Local restaurant co-op distributes 7,000 meal vouchers for families experiencing hunger

OMAHA, Neb. — Douglas County recently granted $500,000 to a new local restaurant co-operative delivery service to help provide free meals for families this holiday season.

With the recent grant, the new co-operative, Loco Omaha, will not only help 40 local restaurants through this pandemic but also thousands of people experiencing hunger. Through its new meal voucher program, local nonprofits will give 7,000 vouchers to those in need.

Each restaurant will prepare and deliver meals that can feed at least a family of four. Erin Feichtinger with Together Omaha called the program “a gift.”

“So, we plan to distribute these vouchers through our pantry,” Feichtinger said. “We have seen up to 250 plus visitors a day.”
